Are Green Smoothies the Answer to Your Health?
As a health coach, I'm often asked about my thoughts on green shakes and their benefits. While many people swear by them for improving health, I have my reservations. The truth is, the vegetables we consume today are often grown in nutrient-deficient soil, which means that they may not contain the same level of vitamins and minerals as they did decades ago. And if our vegetables are lacking in nutrients, then how can we expect our green shakes to be packed with the nutrients our bodies need?
In my own health journey, I've experimented with green shakes, but I didn't notice any significant improvements or my body got to a point where even vegetables would develop a histamine reaction. Instead, I've found that incorporating a variety of whole foods into my diet, has been more beneficial for my overall health. I'm not saying that green shakes are bad, but I believe that there are other ways to get the nutrients our bodies need. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to achieving optimal health. Some of us may require more nutrient support than others. It's important to listen to our bodies and give them the care they need to heal and thrive. Some of the things to consider are:
Is my digestion working properly?
Is my body absorbing all the vitamins/minerals from the food I eat?
Is my body detoxing properly?
Are my detox pathways working properly?
In my case,my body needed a variety of supplements (minerals, vitamins) to heal and start eliminating toxins. I could not tolerate greens, my digestion wasn’t working, so I had to focus on supplementing the minerals I needed to let my body heal. There is something you need to understand, if your body is not functioning properly, it will be hard to push toxins out of it and instead of stressing your body even more you need to focus on eating the food that doesn’t stress your body. Something to keep in mind is that toxins are everywhere; in the food we eat, even in organic vegetables. Many people believe that consuming more greens will help detoxify the body, but is that really the case? After all, if the greens we're eating are infested with chemicals, are we really doing our bodies any favors by adding more to the mix? It's important to be mindful of what we're putting into our bodies and to take steps to minimize our exposure to harmful substances.
