Do New Year Resolutions Really Work?

Do New year resolutions really work?

Happy New Year, can you believe it, 2023 is already here! I feel like the past 2 years have been a blur.  I dont think I created New Year resolutions those two years.  I was too busy trying to survive (I'm sure I wasn't the only one).   But, today, I choose to take a DEEP BREATH, re-balance my energies and refocus my goals/dreams.

Since I can remember New Year resolutions have been a huge deal for me.  I would always make a list of everything I wanted to change,  weight loss, skin rituals, new items I wanted to own, etc.  OH have I changed!  If you are here, that means you have known me as a Photographer.  You see, the past 2 years I  faced some health issues, which in a way encouraged me to change my career, my life, my priorities, my personality, and my dreams.  In three weeks I will graduate from an Integrative Nutrition School, this will allow me to help people regain their health and feel their best.

Anyway, lets get back to New Year resolutions!  Prior to 2020 New Year resolutions didn't really work for me.  I would maybe hit the gym for a month and stop for the rest of year, or eat healthy for two weeks then eat junk the rest of the year. The reason why is because my intentions were not aligned with my true purpose in life.

How do you write your resolutions?  First of all, focus on the things that are truly meaningful to you, things that will benefit your life and not your ego.  One new thing I did this year was analyzed 2022,  my relationship, friendships, career, joy, spirituality, finances.  Then I chose to work on the categories that needed the most help.

A small exercise to get you ready is to write down these categories on a piece of paper:  Family, joy, health, spirituality, friendship, career, self-care (add as many as you like) then rate each category based on where you are in life.  Example Career- I feel very unhappy working for this company, then you know this is something you need to work on in 2023, maybe switch jobs.  Save this exercise and revisit at the end of next year to see your improvements.  Remember everything begins with your mind and heart.  Your mind is so powerful that if you have the faith of mustard seed, nothing will be impossible for you (Matthew 17:20).  Wishing you the best year ever, hope 2023 brings you health, joy, peace and love.
